Changes to the Seattle Fire Department Testing Process
New annual application and exam period
The Public Safety Civil Service Commission (PSCSC) and Seattle Fire Department (SFD) are pleased to announce that the Seattle Firefighter Civil Service Exam will now be conducted annually, and a new eligibility hiring register will be published each year.
Upcoming Application & Exam Timeline:
- Fall 2025: The next Firefighter Civil Service application window opens.
- Late Fall 2025 – Early Winter 2026: Firefighter civil service testing process.
Hiring & Eligibility Information:
- The current Firefighter eligible register (effective February 28, 2025) will be used to hire for two upcoming Firefighter Recruit Classes: August 2025 and February 2026.
- Candidates must reapply and retest in Fall 2025 to maintain eligibility beyond February 2026.
