RE:    POG UPDATE FOR OG 3016

The Department has updated the Probationary Firefighter Evaluations section of Operating Guideline 3016 (OG 3016, page 4) to include an extension of probation process, as follows:

Extension of Probation

The probationary period will be extended by one month for any calendar month of probation in which four or more shifts are, for any reason, not worked in Operations.  Revised probationary reporting schedule will be communicated to probationer, probationer’s chain of command, and Training Division via memo.

Probationary firefighters with extended probation may attend their class graduation as a guest. They will receive their badge pinning and Oath of Office at the conclusion of their probationary period, separate from their class.

For Probationary Firefighter, the Fire Chief has authority to extend probation up to 90 days. For greater than 90 days, the Public Safety Civil Service Commission (PSCSC) must approve.

Questions may be directed to Dori Towler, Human Resources, (206) 386-1471 or Dori.Towler@seattle.gov.

This Dispatch will remain in effect until incorporated into the Policies and Operating Guidelines.
