RE:      DRIVER/OPERATOR CERTIFICATION PROCESS – OPEN ENROLLMENT

The next open enrollment for the Driver/Operator Certification process is May 15 to June 15, 2023. To be eligible to apply for the Certification, members must have two years in the Department by the close of the application period; this includes members from Recruit Classes up to and including Recruit Class 114.

To apply, submit a New Driver/Operator Certification Application Form during open enrollment.

Qualified members will be assigned the appropriate study curriculum through Cornerstone. All Cornerstone drills, quizzes, practice tests, and manipulative drills must be completed, passed, and/or signed off by the Supervising Officer prior to the start of the official exam period beginning December 4, 2023.

NOTE:  Applicants who have notfinished their coursebook and all practice quizzes and tests in Cornerstone by December 4, 2023,will need to reapply for the next iteration of Driver/Operator Certification.

The Testing and evaluation process is December 4 to 15, 2023. Members may be scheduled to test with limited notice, potentially while working other than their assigned shift.

NOTE:  Any applicant unavailable December 4 through 15, 2023, can reapply in the next available testing cycle.

Examination Criteria:

Members must pass two exams to receive the Certification. The exams will be administered on the same day. To participate in the Practical Exam, the candidate must first pass the Written Exam.

·        Written Exam: Must be passed with a score of 80% or greater to continue to the Practical Exam

·        Practical Exam: Must be passed with a score of 80% or greater to become Driver/Operator Certified

Members who are unsuccessful in either exam portion will be offered a single retest opportunity in that area, to be scheduled prior to the start of the next testing period. 

All Study Material for the upcoming Driver/Operator Practical Exam is located on the Driver/Operator Certification SharePoint HUB. The videos depicting the practical evaluation are meant to be used as an example; however, members will be evaluated using the Skill Sheet associated with the practical videos.
