No.  73-23

FR:     Fire Chief Harold D. Scoggins

TO:    The Fire Department

RE:    LETTERS OF INTEREST FOR FIREFIGHTER OPENINGS – AID 5

Letters of interest are currently being accepted for Firefighter positions on Aid 5 assigned to Station 10. All members who have completed their probationary year with the Department are encouraged to apply for this position. Members selected will retain their permanent assignment but report to Aid 5 as an Indefinite Detail on a three-month rotation for all regularly assigned shifts (including debits). The next rotation is scheduled for July 1 through September 30, 2023.

NOTE: Selected members will be crossed-trained June 15 through 30, 2023.

Feedback from past volunteers has been overwhelmingly positive, allowing members to gain exposure to the culture and diverse population of the Downtown core and to enhance their EMS skills. For members seeking advancement from EMT certification to Paramedic certification, exposure from working on a Downtown Aid Car will provide valuable insight and interaction with Firefighter/Paramedics on a more frequent basis.

Members assigned to Aid 5 will receive Premium Pay as established by Union Contract.

Members interested in applying for an Aid 5 position should send an e-mail to “SFDStaffing” at SFDStaffing@Seattle.gov and “SFD HR” at SFD_HR@seattle.gov. The e-mail will include the member’s name, injury/illness number, current assignment, and the vacancy they are applying for by May 30, 2023.

The Seattle Fire Department is looking to create a diverse team of hardworking, committed individuals with a passion for public service and who are deeply aligned with our City’s values of Race and Social Justice. The City of Seattle is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants are considered for positions without regard to race, color, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, gender identity, political ideology, or any other basis prohibited by federal, state, and local laws.
